I agree that the poor decisions hppaened when the debt was acquired. Oh to be able to go back and know then what we know now. I also agree that in an ideal world, you should hold off on vacations and all other non-essentials until the debt is paid off and the emergency fund is in place. However, there are some things that trump being debt free in my mind. Making memories with our 3 children, that will only be young once is one of those things. My best memories as a child were our yearly family vacations. Shane and I have held off on going on vacations for several years as we have paid things off. Now that we are down to just the house and school loans and we can pay for our trip in cash, I do not feel one bit guilty about taking our family on a trip. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow as we found out when my dad was diagnosed with cancer and died 6 months later. It is important to plan for the future, but it is also important to enjoy life and make memories today. I think the trip we are taking this summer will be priceless!
